Geological Guide to Hastings

(Wadhurst Clay at top of cliff with Ashdown Formation, sandstone below)
(Wadhurst Clay at top of cliff with Ashdown Formation, sandstone below) - 2003

The high sandstone cliffs at Rock-A-Nore from the Upper Ashdown Formation actually are overlain by shale's and sandstones from the Wadhurst Clay. There is also a junction bed between them. The Ashdown formation is split into two parts, the majority of the cliff at Rock-A-Nore is of the Ashdown Sandstone and below this past Ecclsbourne Glen, the Fairlight Clay marks the second part of this formation.
